Headright Grant of John Swane
The full-text search on FamilySearch.org is a game changer. I am finding things daily that are original records of family or possible family. Back in 2014 I originally came across the Georgia Headright Files on Familysearch and talk about them in this post.
Today, thanks to full-text search I came across James and John Swain again here.
Here's the actual record for John Swain.
What surprised me today -- thanks to my previous Hollingsworth post that I had already forgotten all about -- I find on this document underneath the Plat map, a phrase that says "Sam Hollingsworth _____" (perhaps that word I can't fully read is "land" or "heir". It looks like the names of the neighbors are written around each side of the plat survey and neighboring this land was Sam Hollingsworth -- the very guy, perhaps?, that I decided to mention in my last post in 2023.
Here's the transcription:
"The 6th of June 1796 I have surveyed for John Swane one hundred and fifty acres of land on the south branches of middle fork of Broad River and has forms and marks agreeable to the above Plat survye the 26th of June 1796."
My William went to Georgia in 1796. He was only 13 at the time but we find him in Franklin, GA as early as 1801. He finally gets married in 1808 to Rebecca Williamson.
Just some interesting
